    Economy News-Baghdad
On Monday, borrowers called on the government and the Central Bank to reduce the monthly installments of loans granted to them due to the low value of their salaries and the crisis of the dinar’s decline against the dollar.
The official "Al-Sabah" newspaper quoted borrowers as saying, "Most of the loans that were obtained from banks were at a time when the value of the dinar was stable against the dollar, as the exchange rate was 120,000 dinars, and it did not reach these levels."
They added that "the value of the installments is high compared to what happened to their salaries due to the low price of the dinar against the dollar, so the government and banks should take into account this and reduce the monthly installments owed by them. They stressed that they had to take loans from banks to buy a plot of land or a housing unit because of the housing crisis." Or to fulfill other necessary needs, and at the time they were accustomed to a stable exchange rate, but now their suffering has increased due to the steady rise in the prices of goods and commodities.
The borrowers also called on the government and the central bank to "reconsider the benefits and increase the ceiling for loan repayment periods in order to face the difficult economic situation, or to postpone the collection of installments until the exchange rate stabilizes."
Experts in financial and economic affairs confirmed in previous statements that the value of salaries decreased by 10 percent when the dinar was devalued against the dollar in 2021, but now the difference has increased further due to the continuous decline of the dinar against the dollar.
