Alsumaria News - International

Many Arab governments focus on pumping more investments in water desalination projects, especially by using reverse osmosis technology, in an unremitting effort to solve the problem of water scarcity in the region, which is considered the driest in the world.

With the rise in global temperatures and the acceleration of the climate crisis, the water crisis is expected to worsen in the Middle East and North Africa region and affect economic growth.

However, technological innovations and advanced water management systems are helping to alleviate the situation. This includes building and developing major desalination plants, as well as implementing sustainable agriculture and water recycling programmes.

According to a recent report issued by BNC Intelligence, the countries of the Middle East and North Africa alone account for half of the desalinated water annually, recording about 48 percent of the daily global production of desalinated water.

The desalination process consists in removing salt and pollutants from sea water to produce fresh water, whose uses go beyond the issue of water security for the population, as part of it is transferred to the agricultural sector, which is also facing an unprecedented crisis due to drought.

The Oil Price platform, quoting the American financial website Zero Hedge, stated that analyst Anna Flick identified a graph through the German company Statista, which specializes in market and consumer data, in which it identified the countries that are investing heavily in this industry with high water stress.
