    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]The head of the Iraqi Contractors Union, Ali Sanafi, said that his country intends to establish an electric power station and another for desalination of seawater through a Chinese partnership, with investments amounting to 3 billion dollars.[/rtl]
[rtl]Sanafi added on the sidelines of a conference in Egypt that the power plant will have a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, while the seawater desalination plant will have a capacity of one million cubic meters of water per day, and that the two stations will be implemented by two companies, one Chinese and the other Iraqi, adding that Iraq is preparing contracts to sign the construction of the two stations in the coming weeks.[/rtl]
[rtl]Sanafi pointed out that the implementation period of the two stations, "electricity and water desalination", will reach two years from the date of the start of implementation, noting that the two companies will begin actual implementation before the end of 2024.[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that the "Oil for Reconstruction" program in Iraq was transferred to the Iraqi local budget so that payment would be made in cash instead of oil, attributing the reason for transferring the program to the existence of complex operations for the state in implementing projects within the "Oil for Reconstruction" program.[/rtl]
[rtl]He added that Egyptian companies were very effective in the "oil for reconstruction" program in Iraq and that about 6 or 7 housing projects were actually launched, but the "oil for reconstruction" memorandum was delayed until it was transferred to the Iraqi local budget.[/rtl]
[rtl]The head of the Iraqi Contractors Union stressed the importance of Egypt's role in the reconstruction of Iraq, through launching huge infrastructure projects that include housing projects, roads, bridges, water desalination plants and electricity. He pointed out that Arab companies are given priority in implementing reconstruction projects in Iraq, in a way that serves to enhance economic cooperation between these countries.[/rtl]
[rtl]An Egyptian government delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel Al-Wazir visited Baghdad on September 8 to discuss participation in the implementation of infrastructure projects, roads, bridges, residential cities, water desalination plants and power stations in Iraq.[/rtl]
[rtl]According to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir said that Egypt is keen to cooperate and participate in development plans in Iraq, given its expertise in all development sectors such as roads, tunnels, railways and ports, and has implemented major projects in a number of Arab and African countries.[/rtl]
