The Dialogues Conference Series covers a variety of topics, ranging from the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the history and current manifestations of Islamophobia, the ongoing challenges surrounding Afghanistan, the future of water security in the Gulf, and the social and cultural dynamics shaping the global energy landscape.
Barham Salih, the main lecturer at the conference, is one of the most prominent figures, and he served as the eighth president of Iraq from 2018-2022. In addition to serving as the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region from 2009-2012, Dr. Salih is also the founder of the American University in Iraq, Sulaimani.
Dr. Salih, an Iraqi Kurdish politician with years of experience in public service and leadership in both the Kurdistan Region and federal Iraq, recently published an expert analysis entitled “After 20 Years of Liberation, Iraq Needs Radical Reform.” The main focus of the conference was the invasion of Iraq in The year 2003 marked a critical turning point in America's relationship with Iraq and its neighbors, a region of strategic importance that includes vital energy and military interests, and reshaped its diplomatic relations around the world.

According to the organizers, the main objective of the conference is to bring together experts from the United States, the Middle East, and other regions of the world to discuss the ways in which the US invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq has shaped the United States, the Middle East and North Africa region, and the world in the past 20 years.
The conference will focus on the major geopolitical groupings of Iraq's regional neighbors, and will cover critical cross-cutting topics, including the rise of ISIS, women in post-invasion Iraq, global governance issues, climate change, and natural resource management.
The GU-Q Dialogues conference series brings together scholars, experts, and the public to explore shared global challenges to create a better future through dialogue and discussion. Each conference in this series provides an inclusive space that encourages community participation, knowledge creation, and the search for innovative solutions to current and future challenges.
“This series will be a platform for discussion, utilizing the university’s status as a beacon for intellectual exchange and scientific collaboration, to address past and current challenges from a new perspective,” said Dr. Safwan Al-Masry, Dean of Georgetown University in Qatar.
He added, "This series will introduce a new model of dynamic, practice-based dialogues, unlike traditional academic meetings, as our mission is to attract leading experts and prominent practitioners, to engage in interactive discussions that lead to tangible results."
