Yesterday, Wednesday, the Ministry of Industry revealed plans to activate marketing activity and raise the efficiency and quality of local products compared to imported ones, while highlighting the most important challenges facing industrial development.
Ministry of Industry spokesperson, Doha Al-Jubouri, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The most important challenges facing industrial development include raising the level of competition between the national and imported products, in addition to the problem of weak interconnection between the country’s commercial and industrial policies and the failure to activate the laws that protect local markets from them (the Law Consumer protection and competition law, which led to the lack of specifications for products entering local markets according to standard specifications.”
She added, “Tackling it requires studies, plans, and programs at the short, medium, and long-term levels for the public, mixed, and private industrial sectors.”
She pointed out that “the Ministry has a plan to activate marketing activity and raise companies’ competitiveness in front of imported products by keeping pace with developments in product design and providing a high-quality national product that meets the consumer’s ambitions, while emphasizing attention to packaging and the final form of the product.
”
She continued, “The plan includes finding elements to raise the quality of products manufactured by the Ministry’s companies by introducing modern production lines with advanced technology, and activating the role of promotion and advertising through social media platforms, websites, and electronic marketing to communicate directly with consumers, because this field represents ease and speed in delivering

She continued, “The plan also includes preparing a field market study to determine the consumer’s desires and the reasons for his tendency to buy some imported products instead of national products, and to provide products with competitive prices by recalculating production costs
according to actual labor.”
She pointed out that “in implementation of the central directives, the private sector was introduced as a partner in the manufacturing process through management and financing by concluding partnership contracts with our public companies,” stressing that “it cannot be certain that the national product will not have an impact on the local market in light of the presence of solid products subject to standard specifications.” Iraqi products, such as (cement, fertilizers, medicines, and electrical transformers), in addition to the fact that most of the Ministry of Industry’s products are not marketed directly to the citizen, but rather complement and support other state sectors such as electricity, agriculture, defense, and others.
