Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Environment explained the features of the Iraqi National Contributions Document, while noting that the document represents a road map for the green economy.
Environment Minister Nizar Amedi said in his speech during the opening of the ninth conference of environment ministers in the Islamic world, organized by the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) under the slogan (Towards achieving a green transformation in the Islamic world) held in Jeddah, that “ The Iraqi National Contributions Document (NDC) represents a road map for the green economy.”
He added, "The document includes action programs to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, as it represents Iraq's voluntary commitment to reduce 2% of greenhouse gases emitted from business as usual, relying on the national effort, and a 15% reduction proposal, conditional on the availability of international support," explaining, "This path represents A means to attract green investment in Iraq.
The Minister stressed, “Supporting Iraq’s efforts to diversify its economy, investing in green economy projects, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and confronting the effects of climate change, with an investment value of up to 100 billion dollars until the year 2030 and in various sectors,” calling on “all countries and companies to contribute to supporting Iraq’s plan to... Green investment and seizing the great opportunities available under a government that seeks to achieve economic progress and openness to the international community.”
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Award for Environmental Management was awarded to a number of researchers, companies and government institutions, and among the winners of the first award from Iraq was Dr. Ali Al-Fawadi.
