The Pharmacists Syndicate announced the import of modern devices and machines in cooperation with the Ministry of Health to complete the drug pricing process expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The high price of medicines is one of the problems that most citizens suffer from, as their financial capabilities are not sufficient to provide medicine and other medical supplies. With the fluctuation of the dollar exchange rates, a number of medicines are witnessing a significant increase in prices.
The official spokesman for the union, Dr. Safaa Hussein Al-Janabi, told Al-Sabah: A large number of modern machines and devices were imported in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, and placed in the popular clinics department to activate the national pharmaceutical system project.
He added that a sticker will be printed specifying the price of the drug that is subject to examination at the Drug Research and Control Laboratory and registered with the Ministry of Health to be provided with the sticker and distributed among pharmacies.
Al-Janabi stated that the drug pricing project was launched last June with limited capabilities due to the lack of devices, and it is expected to be fully completed by the end of this year, as there are currently a number of medications that have been priced and are available in pharmacies.
He explained that the project has several positive aspects, including ensuring a safe and effective medicine as it is subject to inspections and monitoring by the union, in addition to that it will be at an appropriate price, especially after its approval by the Ministry of Health, which calculated the financial costs of medicines according to certain contexts, including the costs of import operations and shipping fees. And transportation and pharmaceutical companies, and that there are specialized committees that calculate all these costs and set the final price on the medicines, which is the last stage after which the medicine is dispensed directly to the citizen.
Al-Janabi pointed out that the pricing sticker contains many privileges, including mentioning the name of the producing company and the drug, in addition to a code that enables the citizen to view all information related to the drug through a program that is downloaded via a mobile phone.
