{Local: Al-Furat News} The water level in the Dokan Dam reservoir in Sulaymaniyah Governorate decreased from its level at the same time last year, while the level rose in the Darbandikhan and Dohuk Dam reservoirs in northern Iraq compared to the same period last year.
The Dokan Dam is the largest dam in the Kurdistan region and its reservoir is capable of storing seven billion cubic meters of water, but the dam director, Kujar Jamal, announced that “the dam currently contains only 23% of its storage capacity, an amount that is 5% less than the amount of water that was present.” In the dam reservoir in the same period last year
As for the Dohuk Dam, which is the third largest dam in the Kurdistan region and has a storage capacity of 52 million cubic meters of water, its director, Farhad Muhammad, announced that the dam’s reservoir now contains less than half of its storage capacity, but it is a larger quantity than was present in the reservoir in the same period last year. .
The Dohuk Dam reservoir currently contains 19.9 million cubic meters of water, and Farhad Muhammad says that in the same period last year the dam contained 10.4 million cubic meters of water.
Darbandikhan Dam, which is the second largest dam in the Kurdistan region, and can store three billion cubic meters of water. Its director, Saman Ismail, announced on the 26th of this month that the dam’s reservoir contains 1.398 billion cubic meters of water, which is equivalent to 60% of its storage capacity.
Similar to the Dohuk Dam, the amount of water stored in the Darbandikhan Dam increased this year, and its director says that the amount of water that increased this year compared to the same period last year is 450 million cubic meters.
In addition to the three large dams in Kurdistan, there are many dams and dams to retain and store water in the region.
The Dokan Dam was completed in 1959 by a British company, the Darbandikhan Dam in 1961 by an American company, and the Dohuk Dam was constructed in 1988.
