{Local: Al-Furat News} The Border Ports Authority denied what was reported on social media about the smuggling of weapons containers from the port of Umm Qasr in Basra Governorate.
A statement by the authority, a copy of which {Al-Furat News} received, said, “There is a higher committee to evacuate dangerous containers under the command of the Joint Operations Command to remove the danger of these containers from the seaports. The committee began its work and requested from the port directorate lists of dangerous containers, and in fact, they were provided with that, including containers belonging to the Ministry of Defense with an indication of them.” Dangerous containers, according to the Investor, as a result of which the Umm Qasr Customs Police Station submitted a review to the investigating judge, and after obtaining judicial approval, which stipulated that they be liquefied and evacuated to the official storage yard and inspected, after the evacuation, the containers were inspected and it was found that there were cannons among the dangerous containers belonging to the Ministry of Defense. It was examined by a joint committee and returned by a judicial decision to the port.”
The statement added, “A joint inspection report was organized, the National Security Service was involved in the report, and all containers were handed over to the Umm Qasr police station to be preserved by a judicial decision until a representative of the Ministry of Defense arrives to complete its procedures,” indicating that “this is a summary of the measures taken and the official documents prove this, but it is impossible to publish them.” "For its privacy."
The outlets expressed their "surprise at some people publishing false news that gives a negative impression of the Fourth Estate's use of media coverage instead of real monitoring and following honesty in publishing the news. We confirm that this publication is an insult to a government institution that will take legal action against anyone who commits this irresponsible act." .
