The Central Investigation Court in Rusafa was able to arrest the largest real estate fraud network in Baghdad.
The Judicial Council stated, in a statement, that “after submitting information about the existence of a gang that is counterfeiting real estate belonging to the state and citizens in Baghdad, and after judicial decisions were taken by the Central Investigation Court in Rusafa, the accused were arrested.”
He added, "The main members of the gang are (17) defendants, including (6) employees in the real estate registration departments in (Al-Karkh First, Second, and Abu Ghraib). Many forged documents were also seized, as well as tools that the defendants used in forgery operations."
He continued, "Through the detailed confessions provided by the defendants, the forgery of approximately more than (100) properties was revealed, the largest portion of which is owned by the state (the Municipality of Baghdad and the Ministry of Finance) and the other portion is owned by citizens located outside the country within the real estate registration departments in Karkh I and II." And Abu Ghraib.
He explained that "the defendants tampered with the real estate registration records of the above departments and transferred ownership of the properties to people among their gang members and then sold them to other citizens for large amounts," noting that "the court opened an investigative case against them in order to recover the properties in accordance with the provisions of Article (36) of the Anti-Terrorism Law." Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing No. 39 of 2015,” indicating that “a seizure has been placed on their money to prevent them from smuggling it or disposing of it, and their money is being tracked and seized by the Rusafa Investigation Court, which specializes in integrity and money laundering cases.”
He pointed out that "tampering with dozens of real estate properties has been stopped, and investigations are underway into fraudulent operations of other real estate properties, and the implementation of arrest warrants issued against the fugitive defendants, who number more than (60) defendants, is being followed up."
