     Baghdad today - Sulaymaniyah
Today, Saturday (May 4, 2024), an informed political source revealed two expected visits next week, which will be made by the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and the President of the National Union, Pavel Talabani, to the capitals of the two main players in Iraq.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Barzani will visit the Iranian capital, Tehran, to discuss with Iranian officials about several files, including the Kurdistan elections and the presence of Iranian opposition groups inside the region, as well as the repeated attacks on the region and an attempt to open a new page in relations with Tehran."
He added, "Talabani will also visit the American capital, Washington, to discuss issues of oil, elections, and gas in Kurdistan, as well as relations between Baghdad and Erbil and other issues."
Earlier today, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, received a delegation from the US Congress, declaring his rejection of any attempt to postpone the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections, scheduled to be held next June.
Reports indicate that the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which rules the Kurdistan region, is preparing to announce the postponement of the regional parliament elections in an attempt to correct its situation after it announced its withdrawal from the elections and their boycott in protest against the decisions of the Federal Court.
On the other hand, other Kurdish parties, led by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party in Sulaymaniyah, reject the decision to postpone the elections.
