The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the beginning of next March has been set as the date for approving the national card. The only official document includes Iraqis inside only, while indicating that it has issued national cards to more than two-thirds of the people.
Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Miqdad Miri said in an interview: The Minister of Interior’s directive to set the first of next March as the date for approving the national card as a single official document comes after the ministry has completed all its preparations in this regard.
He added: The Minister issued this directive at the annual conference held at the General Directorate of Citizenship in the presence of all the ministry’s leaders. Indicating that all procedures and preparations for this basis and all requirements for this matter were studied, and thus the directive was issued.
He explained: This date, 1/3/2024, includes Iraqis inside Iraq only, while Iraqis outside Iraq can benefit from old documents. Pointing out: The Ministry has made great strides, especially in the General Naturalization Directorate regarding the issue of the national card, as more than two-thirds of the people have been issued national cards and the remainder is what was set for them by a date of 3/1/2024.
He pointed out: There are options and a complete study to cancel dealing with old documents. Pointing out that the number of electronic card issuance outlets, devices, and working hours will be increased to speed up the completion of all unified electronic cards.
Earlier, the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, announced the date for approving the national card, the only official document.
A statement from the ministry stated: “The Directorate of Civil Status, Passports and Residence held its annual rental conference in the presence of a number of ministry leaders and personalities, under the auspices of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and in the presence of the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari.”
He added, "The conference touched on the most important achievements achieved during the year 2023 and the services provided, which amounted to (43,774,627) services to citizens and guests of Iraq, which varied between issuing a national card, a passport, a residence card, and other services."
Al-Shammari stressed in his speech during the conference that “there is a great effort being made during the year 2023, especially in the second half of the year, and solid will and correct planning. Today we have no problems in most citizenship departments,” pointing out that “we aspire for the best during the next year of During the complete transformation of the electronic passport and electronic visa.”
He continued, “The Ministry has set 3/1/2024 as the date for approving the national card, the only official document, and the concerned departments must prepare for the large numbers that will come to obtain the card, as well as prepare a plan to rebuild and rehabilitate the buildings of the Nationality Department in the governorates according to a unified model.”[/size]
