The Iraqi Football Association has become a strong candidate to host the Gulf Cup Championship “Gulf 26” instead of Kuwait.
A source in the Iraqi Football Association said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency: “The Gulf Football Association informed the members, including Iraq, that Kuwait has apologized for hosting the Gulf Cup (Gulf 26) due to the lack of readiness of its stadiums to host the event.”
He stated that "Iraq is considered one of the most prominent candidates to host the tournament, especially after the popular success in the 2025 edition last year in Basra," pointing out that "Iraq will compete with Qatar to host the tournament, which could be held at the end of this year."
It is noteworthy that the Gulf Cup Championship “Gulf 25” witnessed Iraq being crowned champion in January 2023. Ended / 25 L
