    Baghdad today - Tehran
The Iranian expert on regional affairs, Muhammad Mahdi Malki, praised the efforts of the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani in removing the security threats facing Turkey and Iran due to the activities of the opposition Kurdish parties that are active in the mountains of the Kurdistan region in northern Iraq.
Speaking to Baghdad Today, Melki said, “If Iraq wants a stable and peaceful state, and wants to improve and develop relations with its powerful neighbors, including Iran and Turkey, it must certainly address their security concerns regarding the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and its branches.”
He stated, "Iraq must address the threats posed by other Kurdish separatist groups, such as the Khabat Revolutionary Organization for Iranian Kurds, the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), the Iranian Communist Party of Kurdistan (Komla), and other separatist groups."
The Iraqi government banned the PKK ahead of the expected visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan this April.
The Iranian expert said, “The leaders of the PKK are well aware of the situation they are in, and Baghdad and Mr. Sudan are determined to resolve and remove the security threats facing Turkey and Iran (implementing the security agreement with Iran), and this means peace and stability for Iraq and the region, as well as the maximum weakening of the situation.” Those separatist groups and the trend towards destroying the structure of those Kurdish armed groups.”
Regarding the step to ban the Kurdistan Workers’ Party by the Baghdad government, Malki said, “This step would provide more stability and security in the above-mentioned countries as an infrastructure for progress and development in other fields that could increase trade exchange between them, which is one of the important goals and agendas of Baghdad and Tehran.” And Ankara.”
Melki described the attacks launched by the Turkish army on Iraqi territory in the north due to the presence of Kurdistan Workers' Party forces as a violation of Iraq's territorial integrity and national sovereignty. These attacks also caused a state of discontent among the Iraqi statesmen and the people.

He said, "In every Turkish attack, a large number of Iraqi citizens (civilians) also lose their lives, which is another case of human rights violations by Ankara, and of course it is also considered one of the cases of increasing tension and insecurity in the region," noting that "the presence and activity of groups that... Threatening the security of other countries is prohibited in the Iraqi constitution.”

He pointed out that "during the last visit last March of a high-level Turkish security delegation to Iraq in the form of the second joint security meeting between the two countries, the Baghdad and Ankara authorities published a statement of 7 points, the most important of which is achieving an appropriate model for fighting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party as it is one of the sources of insecurity." and instability in the region.”

He added, "The other important point is that Iraq considered the PKK a terrorist group in this meeting, which is why Turkey welcomed Baghdad's position and announced the establishment of a joint center for operations against that group."

Earlier, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union described the aforementioned group as terrorist (the Kurdistan Workers' Party has been established in northern Iraq since the 1980s), which may lead to further restrictions on this group.

He continued, "It remains to be seen whether strengthening security cooperation between Iraq and Turkey will lead to more military attacks launched by Ankara against PKK positions and weaken this group to the maximum extent or destroy it completely?"

Melki concluded by saying, "Although the party to Iraq's international agreements and accounts is the central government in Baghdad, attention must be paid to the role and influence of the Erbil government with all the support it enjoys from America and Israel, as well as the possibility of controlling its borders against the activities of Kurdish separatist groups."
