    Today, Saturday (May 4, 2024), economic expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi revealed the reasons for replacing the Italian consulting company with the development path in Iraq.
    Al-Marsoumi said in a blog post followed by “Baghdad Today”: “It appears that the feasibility study and preliminary designs for the development road project presented by the Italian consulting company (PEG) were not convincing to international parties, and therefore the Council of Ministers decided to authorize the Ministry of Transport to contract with the (Oliver Wyman) company to provide services.” Consultation for the development road project.
    He added, "Oliver Wyman, which was founded in 2005, is a global company affiliated with the Marsh & McLennan group of companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It has two offices, one in Abu Dhabi and the other in Riyadh.     He continued: "This company can evaluate the overall project in terms of economic risks, competitiveness, international market situation, expected investment volume, demand, international influences, and expected returns on investment."
    He continued: "The results of the study conducted by Oliver Wyman may lead to modifying the current model to give more space to the industrial and service development aspects, in addition to reducing the cost of constructing the road."
    He pointed out that it "may lead to approaching new international parties to contribute to the road, and conducting more in-depth and extensive economic studies on this project, in addition to raising the security level and disinfecting the areas through which the road passes."
    Last Thursday, the Ministry of Transport announced that it had begun finalizing a contract with an international consulting company regarding the implementation of the Development Road Project.
    A statement from the ministry, received by “Baghdad Today”, said, “The Council of Ministers agreed in its last session (Tuesday, April 30) to exclude the development road project from the instructions for implementing government contracts, and also from the requirements and conditions for listing in the event that it is listed as an investment project.”
    The statement added, "The Council's decision stipulated that the investing company be charged all the consulting contract fees, which will be paid initially by the Ministry of Transport," noting that "The Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Railways, Younis Khaled Jawad, has been authorized to sign the contract."
    The statement noted that “Oliver Wyman International Consulting Company provides financial consulting services to the Iraqi government in the development road project with its three components: port, railway and land roads,” noting that it “also provides assistance in choosing the economic model for the development road.”
    He pointed out, "The General Company for Iraqi Railways continues to work on completing the initial design phase of the railway and land development road tracks, as the completion rate in the railway line reached (75.61) percent, and in the land expressway it reached (68.84) percent, indicating that" operations Soil investigation reached more than 80 percent, and the topographic survey reached 1,200 km.
    The statement reviewed “the completion rates in the Grand Faw Port,” stressing that they “have reached 92 percent in the five berths project, 73 percent in the (link) highway, and 73 percent in the container yard, while work on the submerged tunnel and navigation channel projects continues at a high pace.” .
