    [rtl]Mohammad Mokhber (68 years old), Iran's first vice president according to the country's constitution, is expected to take over as interim president after the death of Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.[/rtl]
    [rtl]The Iranian official agency reported that Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber chaired the emergency meeting held by the government following the announcement of the death of President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in the northwest of the country.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Iranian television confirmed the death of Raisi, his Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and their companions in the plane crash in East Azerbaijan province.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Mokhbar, as interim president and a member of a three-person council with the speaker of parliament and the head of the judiciary, will arrange for new presidential elections to be held within 50 days of the president's death, according to Reuters.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Mokhbar was born on September 1, 1955, and like Raisi, he is considered close to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on all state affairs. Informant became First Vice President in 2021 upon a major election to the presidency.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Mokhber was previously headed by the Setad investment fund linked to Iran's supreme leader.[/rtl]
    [rtl]The full name of the “Setad” Fund is in Persian (Setad Ejrayi Farman Hazrat Imam) or “Imam’s Order Implementation Authority” and it was established by order of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Khamenei’s predecessor, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The mission is to issue orders to assistants and advisors to sell and manage properties and assets that were said to have been left in disarray for years after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and to direct most of what comes back to charitable purposes.[/rtl]
    [rtl]In 2013, the US Treasury added the Setad Fund and 37 companies supervised by the Fund to the list of entities subject to US sanctions.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Mokhber held the position of Managing Director of Dezful Telecommunications Company, Deputy Minister of Trade and Transport for the “Disadvantaged Foundation” and Deputy Governor of Khuzestan.[/rtl]
    [rtl]In 2010, the European Union included the name of an informant on a list of individuals and entities subject to sanctions for alleged involvement in “nuclear and ballistic missile activities.” Two years after that date, the bloc removed its name from that list.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Sources told Reuters in October that Mokhbar was part of a team of Iranian officials who visited Moscow at the time and agreed to supply the Russian army with surface-to-surface missiles and more drones. The rest of the team included two senior Revolutionary Guard officials and an official in the Supreme National Security Council.[/rtl]
