The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed today, Saturday (June 22, 2024), that the Iraqi camps need modernization in order to develop the construction of the various types of armed forces.
Committee member Yasser Watout told “Baghdad Today” that “Iraqi camps need development and modernization at all levels with the aim of raising the combat capabilities of the armed forces of all kinds,” stressing that “the current camps lack modern and advanced mechanisms for training security and military personnel.”
Wattut stressed, "It is necessary to pay attention to the reality of the camps and develop them in a way that is compatible with modernity in military development, and even in security and military training. The training method must be developed in order to build capabilities at various levels for security and military elements, especially for the officer corps."
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed, on Wednesday (June 12, 2024), that completing the armament procedures has become a necessary and priority issue.
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani chaired the third meeting of the Supreme Armaments Committee, during which the armament needs of our armed forces were discussed, to enhance their combat and field capabilities in the face of various security challenges." .
Al-Sudani stressed, according to the statement, “the importance of the armament file within the government’s program, as it is an entitlement linked to ending the presence of the international coalition, and in confronting security challenges and threats in its various forms, stressing that the required financial allocations for armament will be placed in the 2024 budget tables,” explaining that “the Supreme Committee has taken sufficient time.” From discussions, company meetings and visits, the leaders of the groups were also entrusted with determining the weapons they needed.”
The Prime Minister stressed that “completing the armament procedures has become a necessary and priority issue,” stressing that “these procedures are sound and that they are legal, transparent, and meet all requirements, and that all observations raised by the regulatory authorities regarding previous contracts must be taken into account,” directing The technical authorities concerned “send their procedures, and then proceed with the legal steps in selecting companies according to the initial research with the countries.”
