This is one of those games that the Jets should be getting ready to sit and feast upon. A team on a road trip coming off a 4-1 loss and missing six (6) of their regular players. Yes it's the Canadiens and they are ripe for the picking, but this is the Jets.

One of the funny things, whether it be true or not, is that when opportunity knocks the Jets are rarely at the door to open it. In most fans' minds it seems opportunities like tonight are things the Jets blow with a consistency of a Swiss watch.

That may not be true but it's what people believe and in our current world it seems the truth is not a hot commodity.

Tonight the opportunity to get two points is good. No Galchenyuk or Gallagher give the Jets a chance to reduce the focus to what's left of the Montreal offence and key in on the other profile players like Radulov, Pacioretty and Plekanec. In theory it makes the task of winning easier, but nothing is easy for the Jets.

Al Montoya is set to start for Montreal while Connor Hellebuyck continues for the Jets after his shut out against Calgary.

One of the topics around the Jets has been the event rate and how they are producing offence vs defending against the opposition. Micah Blake McCurdy puts up a cool chart with information about this every so often and here is the one today.

What you see is the progression of where at team is moving. In this case you see the Jets play a relatively low event style of hockey, or 'dull' as the chart says, but they are moving in the right direction. Now look where Montreal all is, way over to the right in the 'good' area of the chart. They are moving down though towards the 'fun' area.

The Canadiens have been a team that does not allow a lot of shots and generates a ton thus they are 'good' and their record would reflect that, just like the Jets record reflects them being 'dull'. What team do we see tonight from the Jets? One that plays a dull game trying to control the pace and events or one that will try and run with Montreal as they are playing their backup?

Tyler Myers has left the team for personal reasons Paul Maurice revealed today but there is no update on his status and expected return.

The line rushes were as follows

    Perreault- Little- Wheeler
    Ehlers- Scheifele- Stafford
    Matthias- Lowry- Armia
    Copp- Petan- Thorburn

Jacob Trouba did not practice this morning but Maurice did say he expects him to play tonight.

The effort of trying to predict or discuss what might happen in a Jets game is not so much a futile effort as much as it is a guessing game. That's the uncertainty that comes with a team who plays with consistent inconsistency, such as the Jets. After the game, its a far better time to dissect and review but let's throw out a prediction. If special teams play to a league average, Jets are 19th in league (PP) and 26th (PK), they may have a chance against the 10th (PP) and 23rd (PK).

That's a big if but with the Jets almost anything can happen on any given night.
