Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday called for ensuring the participation of the Kurds in the Geneva negotiations, while stressing that Moscow is discussing this issue with Ankara.
Lavrov said in a joint press conference with his Congolese counterpart Leonard She Okitundu in Moscow that he had discussed with the UN special envoy on Syria Stephane de Mistura in Moscow the preparation of the new round of Syrian negotiations which will begin in Geneva on Thursday and the need to secure a broad representation of the Syrian opposition in this Negotiations ".
"It is necessary to secure the participation not only of the Moscow and Cairo groups, but also of the Astana and Hameim groups, and it is very important to find a solution to involve the Kurds in the Geneva negotiations," he said.
He stressed that "Moscow will continue to search for a way to the issue of participation of the Kurds in the Geneva negotiations, including through negotiations in Astana, stressing at the same time that the involvement of the Kurds in the negotiations is one of the main tasks of the UN envoy de Mistura."
