Al-Abbadi: Iraq will not allow Turkey or any other ground operation within its territory

BAGHDAD, April 8 (UPI) - Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's office announced that Turkey had refused to carry out any military operation on Iraqi soil.
"The Iraqi authorities will not allow any outside party to engage in ground operations on the territory of the country, whether it is Turkey or any other country," the spokesman of the office, Saad al-Hadithi, said in a press statement that "his country's position is clear and consistent."
He added that "Baghdad is waiting for Ankara to fulfill its promises in this regard after the end of the ongoing process to liberate what was controlled by the province of Nineveh province."
He pointed out that "Turkey has previously pledged to withdraw its troops from Iraqi territory, justified to deploy there there is a terrorist threat."
Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Gawishoglu said his country's troops could "intervene soon" in northern Iraq to launch a military operation against what he described as "terrorists".
"The PKK wants to build a military base in the northern Iraqi city of Sinjar and turn it into a second lantern and we will not allow it," Gawishoglu said in an interview.
Oglu pointed out that the PKK targets Turkey, and Ankara is fighting against him outside and inside the country. Finished
