Kuwait and Oman are moving in the Gulf to calm the crisis with Qatar

    Editorial date: 2017/6/5

Omani Foreign Minister Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah arrived in Doha on Monday for an unannounced visit.
The Omani Foreign Ministry said in a tweet on the social networking site "Twitter" that the visit of Yusuf bin Alawi to Doha today, is a private visit, not official, and was scheduled in the Minister's schedule before the latest developments.
Bin Alawi's visit to Doha coincides with a visit to Kuwait by Prince Khalid bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, adviser to Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the governor of the Makkah region.
The visit comes hours after Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain announced diplomatic ties with Qatar and accused Doha of "supporting terrorism".
Kuwait and Oman did not sever their diplomatic ties with Doha, which is likely to play a mediation role to bridge the rift in the Gulf House.
The emir of Kuwait, Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, will visit Riyadh on Tuesday to meet Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz to discuss ways to ease the crisis with Qatar.
The Emir of Kuwait, Prince Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, telephoned the Emir of Qatar yesterday evening and wished him to work to calm the situation and not to take any steps that would escalate and to make efforts to contain tension and brotherly relations between brothers.
