Syrian Central fails to release its assets in Switzerland
BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
Top grade court in Switzerland on Friday foiled an attempt of the Central Bank of Syria to lift it from the list of Swiss sanctions aimed at pressuring Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the bank's assets to remain frozen.
The Federal Court said it sees no reason to consider an appeal from the central bank against a ruling by the Swiss Federal Administrative Court in 2014 and kept the Syrian bank on the sanctions list.
Switzerland adopted the list in 2011, in line with European action.
Government data indicate that it was freezing the assets in Switzerland worth about 115 million Swiss francs ($ 118 million) owned by Syrian individuals and institutions listed on the sanctions list. The data did not explain the terms of the central bank of these assets.
