Berlin opposes cancellation of nuclear deal with Tehran

    Editorial date: 2017/6/27

German Foreign Minister Ziegmar Gabriel has said that Germany is still adhering to the nuclear agreement with Iran, adding that the implementation of the agreement helps stabilize the region.
"We support this agreement and we, as the federal republic, as well as Europeans, will face any attempts to question its importance," Ziegmar Gabriel told a news conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Jawad Zarif in Berlin. According to the German diplomat, the nuclear agreement with Iran strengthens stability in the region and helps prevent the nuclear arms race in the Middle East.
The German foreign minister also stressed that his country is interested in developing economic relations with Iran and plans to solve the outstanding problems of German financial institutions to invest in joint ventures.

The agreement on the "Comprehensive Comprehensive Action Plan" on Iran's nuclear program signed between Iran and the International Quartet (the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 provides for lifting sanctions against Iran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.
On the other hand, Berlin and Tehran stressed the need for direct talks to resolve the crisis on Qatar, pointing out that the aggravation of the situation in the region is not in the interest of anyone.
"The position of the federal government to resolve the crisis around Qatar through dialogue is very reasonable, and we share this position with all parties involved in the dialogue," said Ziegmar Gabriel.
"We hope that all parties will engage in direct negotiations, avoid further escalation and not exacerbate the conflict, but all parties should seek to reach some joint negotiations. We appreciate the mediation conducted by the Amir of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Solve the crisis in Qatar and in the region in general. "
Mohammad Javad Zarif, for his part, said that Iran supports the search for a political solution to crises in the region - whether in Syria, Iraq or Yemen.
"We hope that other countries, which have influence in the region, are taking advantage of the opportunity to achieve a peaceful solution and establish peace in the region, and we count on Turkey and Russia to resolve at least several crises there," Zarif said.
