    Shafaq News / A security source revealed early on Saturday, that the leadership of the Air Force started the technical procedures for the formation of the first squadron of F16 fighter jets in which the first group is scheduled to arrive next September

    Iraqi pilots began more than a year intensive training in Washington by experts to lead the F16 aircraft, while about 350 Iraqi technicians are training in Jordan on English language skills to handle the aircraft

    ”The leadership of the Air Force in coordination with the U.S. team specializing in Balad base northern Baghdad, began procedures for the formation of the first squadron of F16 aircrafts regarding the technical side,” the source who requested anonymity told “Shafaq News”.

    The source added that radars for the guidance of aircraft returned to be managed jointly between the Iraqi and the U.S. technical side, noting that it falls within the ongoing preparations for the completion of the infrastructure for F16 aircrafts

    Baghdad has signed a contract with Washington to import 18 aircrafts to be followed by another 18 aircrafts that has been preliminary approval from the American side

    The Iraqi government allocated last year, double budget for the purchase of 36 aircrafts of type F16 and confirmed last September paying the first installment of the transaction value to the United States.
