North Korean leader "watching US actions before making a decision"

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has received an army report on missile launch plans near the US island of Guam, the official news agency reported.

The agency said Kim Jong-un "will monitor the actions of the United States for a longer period before making a decision."

Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary James Matisse warned that if North Korea fired a missile at the United States, the situation could escalate into war.

Last week, the North Korean military announced plans to launch four missiles near the US island of Guam, adding that it would prepare a final report on the plans and then submit them to the country's leader pending orders.

The Pyongyang Declaration raised a great deal of tension in the region last week as US President Donald Trump warned that North Korea would experience "unprecedented fire and anger in the world."

He said the United States was "fully prepared" to respond to North Korea after it threatened to attack the US island of Guam with missiles.

"Our first priority is the national interest (of South Korea) and our national settlement lies in peace," South Korean President Moon Jay-en sought to ease tensions, he told his aides at a meeting.

"I am confident that the United States will respond to the current situation in a calm and responsible manner and in line with our policy approach."

The North urged North Korea to "stop provocation and hostile rhetoric immediately rather than further aggravate the situation."

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce issued an order banning the entry of a group of North Korean exports under additional UN sanctions imposed earlier this month.

The sanctions came in response to a series of missile tests by North Korea and increased military threats. Finished
