    The 137-member Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference was launched in St. Petersburg on Saturday. 

    More than 150 countries, including 100 parliamentarians, 70 parliamentarians and 2300 guests, including 840 people, " 

    Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Piskov said President Vladimir Putin would address the conference. 

    The conference will discuss several issues, notably a draft Russian document entitled "The 20th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Democracy, the role of the United Nations in the management of international affairs and the steps to be taken in this regard."

    It is characterized by convening of the Conference of the Inter - Parliamentary Union to elect a new president of the Union in the last day of the conference , and despite the right of any person to nominate himself for the job, the usual practice to provide regional groupings its candidate for the job.     Iraq is participating in the conference with a delegation headed by Speaker of Parliament Salim al-Jubouri. 

    Jubouri will meet with heads of parliaments of Russia, Turkey and Iran, as well as a number of Arab and international parliaments, to discuss a number of important issues, including the recent referendum and the importance of the international community's role in supporting Iraq's unity and stability. C
