The Bank of England on Sunday raised interest rates from 0.25 percent to 0.50 percent for the first time in a decade.
The central bank's decision followed the fall of the pound sterling against the major currencies. "This is despite the slowdown in growth in the country, the imminent exit of the EU from the EU system and the consequences for the country's economy.
Sterling fell to $ 1.31, down from $ 1.325 before the announcement.
Seven MPC members voted in favor of a rate hike, while two deputies opposed it.
