The shares of consumer electronics manufacturers rose. Sony gained 0.7 percent and Panasonic gained 0.8 percent.
On the other hand, shares of utility companies and paper makers fell and were the worst performer in the market. Chopu Electric Power was down 1.1 percent, Hokuriku Electric Power 1.4 percent and Tokyo Gas 1.7 percent.
