US satisfaction with the easing of tension between Baghdad and Erbil

     Baghdad / Range

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, in a telephone conversation with the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani, continued Washington's efforts to create the appropriate atmosphere for the start of dialogues between Baghdad and Erbil on controversial issues.
And demands that the Kurdistan Regional Government to hand over airports and border crossings to the federal government, following developments in the crisis between the center and the region after the insistence of the last to hold the referendum. The federal government requires the cancellation of the results of the referendum and the delivery to the Constitution on the sovereignty of Iraqi territory for the purpose of resuming dialogues with Erbil around the disputed areas and a number of outstanding issues between the two sides.
The statement quoted the government of the Territory Tillerson "relieved to calm convulsions and tensions in the lines of contact between the Peshmerga forces and Iraqi forces and restraint by the parties in order to maintain stability."
He praised the US minister, according to the statement, "the Kurdistan Regional Government to respect the interpretation of the Federal Court in relation to the Constitution," stressing at the same time "the need to maintain stability in order to create a suitable ground for serious dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad on the basis of the Constitution."
Barzani also stressed that "the Kurdistan region, as he has always announced, ready to hold serious dialogue with the federal government of Iraq to develop solutions to all problems on the basis of the Constitution." He expressed his desire that "the United States and the coalition countries play their role in starting the dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad and provide their support and cooperation in this context."
"It is necessary to lift the siege on the airports of the Kurdistan region, especially in the humanitarian field, there is a great need for this because a section of the aid to more than one million and five hundred thousand displaced and refugees in the region is secured through airports."
In the meantime, the US State Department renewed the call of Baghdad and Erbil to dialogue to resolve the outstanding differences between the parties, praising the military dialogues that took place between the parties.
"Direct military talks have taken place between the KRG and the Iraqi government, and this means that the two sides are definitely taking steps towards reaching solutions," US State Department spokesman Heather Nuerte said in a statement.
She described the talks of Arbil and Baghdad military as "positive" and renewed the call of the parties to "a comprehensive dialogue to resolve all differences."
