Washington: We have not received an invitation from Baghdad to resolve the crisis in the region
The United States has not received a request from Iraq to mediate in the crisis between Baghdad and Erbil, State Department spokesman Heather Naewert said on Wednesday.
"Washington is always urging the Iraqi government and the KRG to resolve their differences through dialogue and peaceful means," she told a news conference.
"Baghdad has not yet invited America to intervene in resolving the current crisis between it and the Kurdistan region," she said.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said during his weekly conference that he welcomes the dialogue with the Kurdistan Regional Government, while the Prime Minister of Kurdistan reiterated the readiness of the region to enter into "serious" negotiations.
Relations between the center and the region have witnessed an unprecedented crisis since Kurdistan held a referendum on secession from Iraq on September 25.
