    Information / follow-up ...
Japanese stocks fell to their lowest level in more than a week on Friday as a wave of losses in mobile phone shares continued as concerns about the intensification of competition after the Rakoten e-commerce group said it wanted to become the fourth telecommunications company in the country.
The benchmark Nikkei <.N225> was down 0.6 percent, easing the trend from weak US stocks overnight, to 22,553.22 points, its lowest closing since Dec. 7.
Nikkei lost 1.1 percent over the week.
The information and communications sector index was down 3.2 percent and was the worst performer.
KEDDI fell 6.7 percent, NTT DoCoMo fell 4.6 percent and Softbank, with its most diversified portfolio, fell 2.4 percent. The wave of losses began after Rakuten said it was considering entering the mobile phone market, putting it in competition with giants.
On the other hand, heavyweight stocks such as Fast, which rose 1.3 percent, advanced chip makers, with Tokyo Electron up 1.4 percent and Advantest up 0.9 percent.
The broader TOPIX index <.TOPX> was down 0.8 percent at 1,793.47
