Trump vows nations to vote against his decision on Jerusalem: Our aid to friends only!
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday called on Congress to strengthen legislation to ensure that US aid is "reserved for friends only."
In his first speech to the US Congress, Trump referred to his decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to transfer the US embassy, and the uproar it caused.
"Last month I decided to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but some countries voted against this resolution at the United Nations," he said.
He added: "America has provided more than 20 billion dollars of aid to these countries, and I call on Congress to work to be these funds in the service of US interests, and not only to the friends of America and not to its enemies."
The State of the Union address is the first speech by the US president 12 months after his entry into the White House, during which he touched on several important issues in the world.
