The head of the German internal intelligence agency, North Korea, has said that North Korea used its embassy in Berlin to obtain technology and equipment for its nuclear and missile programs.
In a television interview, Hans-Georg Messen said that North Korea usually chooses technology and equipment that can be used both civilian and military.
He explained that the German authorities foiled such activities, but pointed out that there is no guarantee that all movements have been monitored.
For many years, North Korea has developed sophisticated methods of circumventing international sanctions to enable it to move ahead with its nuclear and missile programs.
"We noticed that many of the (technology) access activities took place at the embassy," Masan said in an interview with ARD television on public television.
"From our point of view, it was (technology) for the missile program, but it was also for the nuclear program."
"When we see such things, we stop them, but we can not guarantee to monitor and thwart every attempt," he said.
The ISI has obtained clues about North Korea's access to technology and equipment during 2016 and 2017, according to an ARD investigation.
In 2014, a North Korean diplomat tried to obtain equipment used to develop chemical weapons, the station said.
This comes in conjunction with a report by the United Nations reported that North Korea made gains of about 200 million dollars last year from the export of prohibited goods, in violation of the sanctions imposed on it.
