An American newspaper: This is how bin Salman stabbed Pakistan in the back
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia has given up Pakistan's support and succumbed to US pressure and voted for Islamabad to be included in a terrorism financing list, despite sending 1,000 troops to the kingdom to protect Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, " British.
The newspaper said, quoting officials familiar with the discussions, that Riyadh has succumbed to pressure from Washington after it was against the decision to include Islamabad in the list of financing terrorism, noting that before the final vote of the Task Force for financial work on the resolution, at a meeting in Paris last Thursday, After the meeting, Saudi Arabia immediately relinquished support for Pakistan, and a decision was made to include it in the list of countries that are not doing enough to fight terrorism financing and money laundering.
"Before Riyadh renounced Islamabad, Saudi Arabia joined both China and Turkey in a first vote last Wednesday against a US proposal to place Pakistan on the list of nations that do not fight terrorism financing and launder money," it said.
Washington has pushed for a second vote for the member states of the Task Force for Financial Action, after US officials met with their Saudi counterparts and reminded them of the strong partnership between the two countries, and immediately after Saudi Arabia renounced Pakistan, as did China, while Ankara stuck to its position despite US pressure, .
This is due to the US insistence on the inclusion of Pakistan in the list of financing terrorism to the desire of Washington to punish Islamabad because of what it says it lags in the last in the fight against terrorists on its territory, and last month withdrew US security assistance to Pakistan worth two billion dollars.
The inclusion of Pakistan in the Financial Task Force Task Force (FATF) list could involve borrowing from abroad at a higher cost, being more closely monitored for its international banking transfers, and potentially undermining opportunities to attract foreign direct investment.
