The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, affirmed "his country's firm stance and support for the unity, security and stability of Iraq."
This came during a meeting with Salim al-Jubouri, Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives (parliament), in his office at the Palace of the Sea in the capital Doha on Monday.
"Qatar thanked the leadership and the people for their efforts in supporting Iraq at various levels, especially in the fight against terrorism," Al-Jubouri said.
He also thanked him for "the great support that the State of Qatar has pledged to provide for the reconstruction of Iraq at the international conference hosted recently by Kuwait."
During the meeting, they reviewed the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them and develop them, in addition to the latest developments in Iraq and the region.
The Iraqi parliament speaker arrived in Doha yesterday for an unannounced official visit.
The visit comes about 10 days after Qatar's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani announced that his country had presented a $ 1 billion package of loans and investments in Iraq's infrastructure and reconstruction projects at the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq.
