Gold rose more than 1% on Tuesday as the dollar tumbled after North Korea indicated it was ready for nuclear talks, as well as investors worried about a "hostile" US trade policy.
The dollar hit a two-week low as investors bet on risky currencies and assets, with news that the two Koreas will hold their first bilateral summit in more than a decade, after Seoul said Pyongyang was ready to discuss nuclear disarmament with the United States.
Gold on the spot market rose 1.1% to $ 1334.80 an ounce late in the US session, having earlier touched its highest level since Feb. 26 at $ 1338.49.
US gold futures for April delivery rose 1.2% to settle at $ 1335.20 an ounce.
Among other precious metals, silver rose 2.1% to $ 16.77 an ounce, after hitting a two and a half week high of $ 16.86.
Platinum rose 0.44% to $ 965.24 an ounce. Palladium rose 0.24% to $ 984.90 an ounce, after recording a three-week low of $ 974 during the session.
