Germany, UAE establish joint fund for rebuilding Syria

ABU DHABI, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- Visiting German Federal Foreign Minister Dr. Guido Westerwelle declared on Wednesday a joint initiative between his country and UAE to establish a trust fund for rebuilding Syria.

In a joint press conference with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayid Al-Nuhayan, Westerwelle said that the decision by the Syrian National Coalition to join negotiations in Geneva 2 conference was the right one.

He expressed hope that the conference would reach the right outcome and contribute in ending the conflict in Syria, calling for activating the political dialogue.

Earlier, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces received the German minister and his accompanying delegation.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi welcomed the visit of the German minister and discussed with him bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in the light of the distinguished friendship and mutual strategic interests.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed and Westerwelle reviewed the existing cooperation and stressed the importance of enhancing the bilateral ties to include all development sectors, particularly the economic, social, educational and investment domains.

They also tackled the outcomes of the P5+ 1 negotiations, over Tehran's nuclear programme, in addition to the existing efforts to convene Geneva 2 Conference on the Syrian crisis amid international community's desire to hold the conference at the earliest.

The two sides stressed that the continuation of regional and global efforts, dialogue and mutual trust were enough to resolve all dossiers in order to stabilize the region and set foundations for security and better future for countries and peoples of the region.
