The Information Office of the Council of Ministers announced the freezing of powers granted to ministers and provincial councils and governors, including the distribution of land plots to citizens and employees during the current period, to prevent the exploitation of this matter for electoral purposes.

"The Cabinet decided to freeze the powers granted to ministers, governors and provincial councils on the distribution of land to employees and citizens in order to prevent them from being used for propaganda and election purposes in an illegal manner and outside the legal framework," Saad al-Hadithi, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office of Information, said in a press statement.

Al-Hadithi added that "the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers will hold accountable any government entity that tries to exercise its powers in distributing land and does not comply with the freeze order. The government will take all legal measures against it."
