The head of the Foreign Relations Committee, Abdul Bari Zebari, said on Monday that the US decision to cancel the nuclear agreement with Iran on January 12 would have a direct impact on the Iraqi elections that will take place on the same date.
Zebari told Ashqaf News that "the Iraqi position is clear in this regard and he does not want to escalate in the region and the need to resort to dialogue and calm."
He added that "escalation in any political or military file would affect the region in general, especially Iraq, but for the Iraqi elections, the results are the most important."
US President Donald Trump has set 12 of this month as a date for a decisive decision on Iran's nuclear issue, while observers are likely to withdraw Washington from the nuclear deal.
