The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Thursday that at least 12 militants loyal to the regime were killed early Thursday in air strikes targeting military positions near Deir al-Zour, east of Syria.

"The strikes carried out by aircraft likely to belong to the international coalition targeted an area in the south of the city of Albuqmal border with Iraq," the observatory said in a statement.

For its part, said the official Syrian news agency (SANA) that "US strikes targeted military positions between Albuqmal and intimate near the facility known as the second station (T2)."

"We have no news of a strike by the US-led coalition against targets or forces loyal to the Syrian regime," US military spokesman Captain Bill Urban told Reuters.

"We have no information to support these reports," a Pentagon spokesman said on condition of anonymity.
