(Reuters) - Israeli planes bombed a site on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights on Friday, Syrian and Israeli sources said.
"An Israeli raid on a hill in Khan Arnaba in rural Quneitra and no injuries," a commander of the regional coalition supporting Damascus told Reuters.
The Israeli army said in a statement that it hit a Syrian military site shelling a buffer zone on the Golan border during clashes with the opposition in southern Syria.
Syrian forces have restored territory in the south of the country, which has been under the control of the armed opposition with the help of the Russian air force over the past two weeks. The attack has so far focused on the province of Daraa, on the border with Jordan, and has yet to turn into Quneitra to the west near the border with the part of Israel occupied by the Golan Heights.
The Israeli army said in a statement on Friday that although it had not participated in the war in Syria, it would "continue to implement the disengagement agreement signed in 1974, which includes the preservation of the buffer zone."
The 1974 Agreement, monitored by the United Nations, prohibits or restricts military buildup on both sides of the Golan border. An Israeli minister said on Thursday his country could fire on any Syrian troops deemed to violate the disengagement agreement.
Israel, which occupied most of the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 war, sent reinforcements of artillery and tanks to the Golan Heights.
Israel is watching with concern the progress of the Syrian army and its allies near the Golan Heights. Israel has carried out dozens of air strikes during the Syrian civil war for more than seven years on what it described as targets for Iran or militants supporting them.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next week, is pressing Moscow to keep Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's allies away from the border.
Sources loyal to Damascus told Reuters that the Iranian-backed Hezbollah guerrilla group was helping the attack in southern Syria in defiance of Israeli demands, but was avoiding attention to its involvement in the attack.
