Federal Reserve: US economy grew strongly in the first half of 2018

"Economic activity rose at a strong pace during the first six months of 2018," the Fed said in a semi-annual policy report sent to the US Congress on Friday, adding that the economy was still supported by good consumer and corporate confidence.
The bank, in its 63-page report, noted that increases in household wealth, strong economic growth abroad and helping domestic financial conditions all contributed to economic growth.
The Federal Reserve expected that further gradual increases in interest rates would be "appropriate" to further boost economic expansion in the country.
The Federal Reserve raised interest rates twice this year to between 1.75% and 2%.
The US Federal Reserve's tax cuts have probably contributed to a recovery in consumer spending from a slow start this year and will provide a moderate boost to economic growth in 2018, the bank said.
The report also noted that wage growth was weaker than expected with the unemployment rate reaching 4% currently.
The monthly jobs report in the US showed a slowdown in wage growth over the past month.
