Oil prices stabilized on Friday, supported by traders setting up new hedge funds in the futures market in anticipation of a drop in US stocks, but prospects for increasing global supplies are preventing crude from rising.
US West Texas Intermediate crude futures were $ 68.87 a barrel, down 9 cents from the previous settlement price.
Brent crude futures fell 5 cents to $ 73.40 a barrel from the previous close.
US crude inventories rose 3.8 million barrels last week to 408.74 million barrels, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration, although inventories at the futures delivery center in Cushing, Oklahoma fell 1.3 million barrels, according to management data.
