The head of the Iraqi Chamber of Commerce Jaafar al-Hamdani stressed on the work to make Iraq a "destination" for the transport of Iranian goods to the countries of the region, while his Iranian counterpart said that the volume of trade exchange with Iraq registered a growth rate of more than 30% in the first half of this year.
"This meeting in the current situation is important because Iran faces an economic embargo," he said during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in the city of Mashhad.
"The city of Mashhad, especially in the field of construction and infrastructure, has made good progress, and continued investment in these areas could pave the way for Iraqi investors."
Al-Hamdani stressed "the importance of increasing Iraq's trade with Iran, and we are working to make Iraq a destination for the transfer of Iranian goods to the countries of the region."
"In the first half of this year, the volume of trade between Iran and Iraq was more than $ 1.5 billion," he said.
"The participation of Iraqi investors in the construction of housing projects in Iran, the participation of the two countries in the joint industries and solving the problem of various specifications of quality, as well as cooperation between the two national banks, are other areas of economic cooperation between Iran and Iraq."
The head of Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Gholamhossein Shafie, said that the volume of trade exchange between Iraq and Iran has increased by 30% during the first half of this year, and it is possible to raise the level of trade exchange more than it is now.
He added that Iran and Iraq need to expand their relations in other areas, especially the development of Iraq's infrastructure in the sectors of construction and industry.
Shafie noted that Iraq and Iran have a very special geographic location in the region's economy. In addition to the local market, they can work together in the economy of the region, pointing out that Iraq is one of the most important trading partners of Iran in the region and the world.
