Israel plans to build the world's largest desalination plant
The Ministry of Finance announced that it has received offers from seven groups, including local and foreign, to build the largest desalination plant in the world.
The ministry said in a statement that "the tender, which is still at an early stage, includes a new desalination plant in the Mediterranean Sea in the area of Surik in central Israel , and there is another desalination plant already operating on site."
"The presentations were made by IDE Technologies and GES Hutchinson of Israel, PMEC of China, SUEZ of France, and an alliance of Spanish Axis and Alid of Israel, as well as another alliance between Aqualia of Spain and WPI of Israel."
- hen the new plant comes into operation, Israeli desalination plants will be able to produce about 200 million cubic meters of water annually, equivalent to 85 percent of the total amount of water consumed by households and municipalities in Israel.
