The dollar fell in Asia on Tuesday as US Treasury yields fell to their lowest level in three months as investors worried about a possible halt in the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike.
US 10-year Treasury yields fell to 2.94 percent on Tuesday, their lowest since mid-September. The yield gap between two-year US bonds and 10-year bonds fell to their lowest level since July 2017.
The dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback versus six major currencies, fell 0.23 percent to 96.8.
The dollar fell 0.5 percent against the yuan on the foreign market to 6.8375. On Monday, the greenback lost 1.07 percent, its biggest percentage decline since August 25.
The Australian dollar benefited from large-scale selling of the US dollar, rising 0.2 percent in Asian transactions to $ 0.7368. The Reserve Bank of Australia kept its key monetary interest rate unchanged on Tuesday, a move widely expected.
The yen traded at 113.05 to the dollar, with the greenback losing 0.5% against the Japanese currency.
Sterling was up 0.2 percent at $ 1.2744 on the back of the general weakness of the US currency. On Monday, sterling fell below $ 1.27 for the first time since October 31.
Sterling has suffered losses over the past three weeks as traders bet that British Prime Minister Theresa May will not be able to get parliament's approval of the EU exit agreement on Dec. 11.
