The prominent Iraqi politician Mithal al-Alusi called Monday for Iraq to open channels with Israel.
Tel Aviv confirmed that three Iraqi political delegations had recently visited Israel, "including Shi'ite and Sunni figures and local leaders with influence in Iraq."
According to the official, there has been a break between Baghdad and Tel Aviv since the declaration of the establishment of Israel in 1948.
Alusi told Ashqaf News that "visits to Israel are secret because they fear groups associated with Iran and al-Qaeda or Badash of their liquidation," noting that " Iraq is still down, and citizens fear organized terrorism in the street. "
Alusi had already confirmed that he would visit Israel.
"There are representatives of the Islamic parties who are visiting Israel, and this indicates the duality of these parties," he said.
"Iraq has to open channels with Israel, and Iran opened the time of Khomeini," he said. "Iraq must be presented above any other interests. This is important for Iraq in the next stage."
Israeli writer and journalist Eddie Cohen revealed that the three delegations discussed "the Iranian withdrawal from southern Syria in return for stopping the Israeli bombardment, dissolving the Shiite parties and announcing Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the Gulf states normalization."
Recent years have witnessed the launching of organized campaigns for activists calling for normalization with Israel, bearing in mind the Palestinian cause and the wars and crises that have afflicted Iraq.
They considered that it was Iraq's refusal to reconcile with Israel that dragged it into wars and woes, and that it would have been possible to avoid all this if Iraq had been involved in the Middle East peace process.
