Putin threatens: We will respond to the proliferation of nuclear weapons in Europe by targeting America itself
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that his country would respond to any deployment of medium-range nuclear weapons in Europe, not only by targeting the countries where the missiles are deployed, but by targeting the United States itself.
"Russia is not seeking confrontation and will not deploy rockets in response to the withdrawal of the United States from the Treaty on Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," Putin said in his annual address to parliament.
"Moscow's reaction to any deployment of missiles will be firm," he said, noting that "US policy makers must calculate the risks before any step."
