The White House announced that President Donald Trump has ordered the abolition of preferential trade benefits to be used by India and Turkey under a program to support developing countries.
"At the request of President Donald Trump, the US Trade Representative announced today that the United States intends to cancel the concessions granted to India and Turkey as developing countries benefiting from the GSP program," which facilitates the entry of their exports into the US market, the US Trade Representative said.
He added that the reason for this decision is that these two countries have gone beyond the criteria required to take advantage of this program.
He pointed out that India and Turkey will be removed from the program of trade support together, but for two different reasons.
"Despite promises," India has failed to provide guarantees that it will allow "fair and reasonable access to its markets in many sectors," he said.
Turkey considered it to be "economically developed" because it was not considered a developing country and was therefore no longer eligible for this support program.
"Over the four and a half decades during which Turkey has benefited from the GSP of developing countries, its economy has grown and diversified," he said.
The US presidency cited a series of "evidence of the high level of development" in the Turkish economy, including high per capita income and low poverty.
This trade support program allows recipient countries to exempt some of their exports from US tariffs provided that they meet certain criteria, including combating child labor, respecting internationally recognized workers' rights, respecting intellectual property and providing fair and reasonable access to US markets for their exports.
According to the US Trade Representative's Office, the new measures, which will include India and Turkey, will enter into force at least 60 days after the White House notified the Congress and the governments of the two countries of this decision.

US Trade Representative 's office said on Monday that the United States intends to end preferential trade treatment to Turkey under the program allowed some exports to enter the United States duty - free.
The office said in a press release that Turkey was no longer eligible to participate in the Generalized Preferences System because it was "economically advanced".
The US Trade Representative's Office said in August it was considering Turkey's eligibility to participate in the program after the NATO member imposed a reprisal fee on US goods in response to US steel and aluminum fees.
The Office of the Trade Representative said that the lifting of Turkey from the program will not take effect before at least 60 days notice of Congress and the Turkish government and it will enter into force under a presidential declaration. He briefed US President Donald Trump on Monday.
Turkey is one of 120 countries participating in the Generalized Preferences System, the oldest and largest US program of preferential trade treatment. The program aims to promote the economic development of recipient countries by eliminating tariffs on thousands of products.
The United States imported $ 1.66 billion in 2017 from Turkey under the program, accounting for 17.7 percent of its total imports from Turkey, according to the US Trade Representative's Web site.
According to the site, the categories of imports that lead the program are cars and their components, ornaments, precious metals and stone pieces
