The Iranian president, Hassan Rowhani, said that "the enemies were seeking a supportive industry to support conflicts and ignite religious and sectarian wars among the countries of the region.
"The enemies and those behind a flourishing industry were intending to burn the region and ignite bloody wars among their people," President Rowhani said during a meeting in Baghdad Tuesday with a number of elites, tribal leaders and religious communities.
"The people of the region, led by the heroic Iraqi people, have managed through resistance and steadfastness to thwart this conspiracy and defeat terrorism. The Islamic Republic of Iran is proud to stand with the Iraqi government and people," he said.
"Despite the propaganda broadcast by the United States and the West, they played no role in defeating terrorism, but the bombing of some sites did not go beyond the framework of review procedures," Rowhani said.
